I was watching the news this morning when I heard a report of two dogs dying and others becoming ill after being at a Leash Free Dog Park. I live in Ontario, Canada and this report was coming from Toronto, Ontario.
This park is located in the High Park area of Toronto. It has been there a number of years but with anything there is always complaints. Complaints have been mainly about the cleanliness of the park. Anyway there is a place for the dogs to get a drink and apparently someone spiked the water with anti-freeze.
To me this was not only a very malicious act but a very cowardly and stupid one also. People using the park not only bring their dogs there but some may bring their small children there also. Small children will put just about anything in their mouth including the water meant for the dogs. So this person has not only endangered the dog but also he/she could have very well endangered small children as well. If they have a problem with the park there are better ways to go about expressing them!
They could have easily have taken this up with their local politician. They could have gone to the park and talked to the dog owners. They could have written a letter to the editor of the local newspaper. But no! This person would rather just sneak around probably under the cover of night and try to kill innocent animals and possibly children. As I said before very malicious and cowardly.
For those using dog parks please be careful. I’m not a big fan of muzzling my dog but if it would prevent them from having access to poisoned water then I might be considering it. They have those fold up dishes also that you could bring with you along with bottled water if your dog needs a drink.
Also since the main complaint about the park seems to be the cleanliness of the park, make sure and pick up after your dog.
It just boggles my mind sometimes at what some people will do. To my fellow dog lovers please try and keep your pet safe!
Until next time
